Golfing in Maine

The green slopes left, and then a little bit right. It sounds tricky, but you’re seeing this one perfectly. And you should. You’ve drained this putt a hundred times, back home.

So you lean over the ball, and exhale one more time. Your putter glides effortlessly along the line you envisioned, tapping the ball on the way through, and there it goes. Just where you thought it would.

And as the ball gurgles and rattles happily into the center of the cup, you smile a little bit. Because it’s always fun to see a perfect putt.

But after you take your ball from the hole, and put it into your pocket, that’s when it feels much different than home. Because now your focus has shifted to the natural beauty that surrounds you.

You’re not looking at the perfect putt anymore. You’re looking at the perfect place.

There are over 100 golf courses in Maine, which means there’s a golf course for you in every area of the state. Wherever you’re headed, you can golf there. And once you get there, you’ll soon realize that it’s not the way you swing the club here, or the way the highly-ranked courses challenge you here, that seems so different.

It’s how you feel while you’re golfing here. That’s what’s different.

Maybe it’s the boulders along the fairway, or the ocean waves crashing on the rocky shoreline. Or perhaps it’s the relaxed culture, where the rounds go as fast or as slow as you want them to. Maybe it’s the new friends you’ll make, laughing together in the clubhouse.

Golf is a game you already love, but in Maine, you’ll feel like you’re playing it for the first time. So bring your clubs with you. You might not remember the score, but you’ll definitely remember the feeling.

Let the Golf Concierge from The Maine Golf Trail suggest a course that is just right for you. Or visit the Maine State Golf Association for an extensive list of courses in the state.
