Higgins Beach is an oceanfront village in Scarborough that draws visitors and locals to its more than half a mile of white sand beach near the mouth of the Spurwink River. You can enjoy spreading out a blanket, relaxing to the sounds of the sea,and swimming in the relatively warm water here. If you're a bodysurfer or board surfer, you can take to the waves for an exciting ride on the breakers. If you like to kayak, you can play in the ocean surf and paddle up the river just around the bend from the beach. Surfcasting for striped bass in season is also a popular activity.
You'll find parking for Higgins Beach a short distance away on Ocean Avenue, where you'll need to pay a fee during summer. Thebeach itself has no facilities and no lifeguard.
