East End Beach

At East End Beach—the only public beach in Portland—you can swim at the sand and pebble beach that stretches for several hundred yards along the edge of the Eastern Promenade. You can also see sailboats bobbing on their moorings in Casco Bay. You can park just uphill from the boat launch, where you'll find public toilets and changing areas. Benches and picnic tables line the Eastern Prom Trail above the beach. This beach does not have a lifeguard. Dogs are not allowed on the beach in the summer. You can launch a kayak or canoe from the beach or the boat ramp to explore Mackworth Island or Fort Gorges, each just a short paddle away. You can also walk on the grassy hillside of the promenade to enjoy the view.
