Portland Breakwater

X

Portland Breakwater Light Station—dubbed "Bug Light" because of its small size—was built in 1875 after the first light station was established here in 1855. Though modeled on an ancient Greek monument, it was built with plates of cast iron. The light sits in Bug Light Park in South Portland, where you can park for free. To reach the park, take Route 77 south into South Portland. Drive east on Broadway, turn left on Pickett Street, which becomes Madison Street and leads to the park. You can also see Bug Light from several Casco Bay cruises.
