Hunting in Maine
When you come to Maine to go hunting, you’ll discover wild game in abundance. Whether it’s birds, moose, deer or bears you came for, few states in the Lower 48 can rival the variety and quality of hunting opportunities found in Maine.
- Pursue one of the 25,000 black bears, or the 200,000 whitetails, or the 29,000 moose. If it’s waterfowl you’re here to chase, you’ll find plenty in our lakes and marshes, and also along the magnificent coastline, where world-class sea duck hunts occur. The restoration of wild turkey has been a phenomenal success here as well, and you’ll find them in the north and east in abundance.
- With so many hunting options, it’s hard to pick just one. But luckily, you won’t have to. That’s because Maine has hundreds of Registered Maine Guides, who will gladly take you down every path you wish to explore here. Find your guide with the Maine Professional Guides Association or at the Maine Wilderness Guides Organization, where you can search by hunting type and area.
- When you’re ready to start planning your adventure, you’ll find some great resources in the articles below and within our interactive map. The Maine Sporting Camp Association and the state’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife are also helpful resources are.
