The Aroostook Valley Trail is 28.8-mile wonder and a tour through the backcountry. It uses the old Aroostook Valley Railroad bed between Presque Isle and New Sweden, which was discontinued in 1996, and passes through the towns of Washburn, Caribou and Woodland. From active farm fields to deep woods, lazy streams to the big Aroostook River, the scenery along the route is pleasantly varied. The trail itself is crushed stone - excellent for most uses - and you can connect to the Bangor and Aroostook Trail, making for an epic odyssey.
